Dit jaar hebben we voor de eerste keer een maisbank, hier wordt mais verkocht (voor de inkoop prijs van mei) aan de mensen in het gebied Maluwa   Dat is een stuk goedkoper dan de marktprijs. Het is een mooie manier om mensen op een duurzame manier te helpen; de mais is goedkoper dan op de markt, maar ze betalen er wel voor. Hierdoor kunnen we van het geld wat terug gekomen is weer mais kopen in mei dit jaar en kan de maisbank doorgaan zonder extra kosten. 

This year we could start with the maize bank, Here mais is being sold to the people in Maluwa area for the price that we bought it for, in May. That is much cheaper than the current price on the market. This is a nice way in helping people in a sustainable way; the maize is available and cheaper but they need to buy it. The return of the sales will be used to buy maize again in May this year.  The maize bank can keep running without further additional costs. 

Het mais plot staat er goed bij. Een Pfumvudza plot is een plot met mais, waarvan de oogst genoeg moet zijn voor een familie om een jaar van te eten. We hebben een tweede keer moeten planten omdat na de eerste keer de grond opdroogde en daardoor het zaad niet door de korstlaag heen kon komen, maar de tweede keer was het veel beter. De kippenmest doet zijn werk en de mensen zijn verbaasd dat de mais er zo bijstaat. We zouden willen dat iedereen zo'n veldje zou hebben op deze standaard.

The maize is doing fine on our plot. We use the measurements of a Pfumvudza plot; a field with the size big enough to feed one.family for a year. We had to replant due to very sunny weather after planting, therefore the seed could not get trough the hard crust of topsoil. but the second time was good. The chicken manure is doing its job well and the people are impressed by looking at the maize. We hope that in the future everyone will have a field like this and on this standard. 

De mais bij de buren heeft dringend regen nodig. Het heeft hier vanaf na de kerst niet meer geregend, terwijl het wel erg warm is. Er is regen voorspeld, we bidden dat het dus komt. Verder zijn er berichten dat in Zimbabwe en Zuid-Afrika het erg droog en daardoor een tekort aan voedsel dreigt te ontstaan. Willen jullie voor ons, Malawi en Zuidelijk Afrika bidden? 

The maize at the neighboring fields are in high need or rain. We haven't had rain since Christmas and it is very hot. The weather forecast predicts rain and we pray that it will happen soon. We also have heard that in Zimbabwe and South- Africa there is a drought and a high chance that there will be shortage of food. Will you pray for us, Malawi and the south of Africa?

We have received a piece of land from the Group Village Headman Maluwa. 50 x 100 Meter. We will use it for demonstration of Foundations for Farming, training and production place.

GVH Maluwa is coming every day to participate in the development without being paid for it. What a faithful person, and what a motivation he has. Thank God for people like him.

We hebben een stuk land gekregen van de hoofd chief Maluwa. Het land is 50x100 meter. We gebruiken het als demonstratie veld in de Foundations for Farming methode, trainingen en productie plaats. De hoofd chief Maluwa komt elke dag om mee te werken aan de ontwikkeling die zo in zijn dorp komt en dat zonder enige vergoeding. Wat een trouw en motivatie zien we zo in hem, We danken God voor mensen als hem. 

This is our tree nursery. This year we aim at growing 2000 trees and selling 1500 of them, the rest is for reforestation in the area.

Dit is onze boomkwekerij. Dit jaar willen we graag 2000 bomen hebben we hopen 1500 te kunnen verkopen, de rest van de bomen is om te planten in het gebied.

Dit is de hand-gegraven waterput op ons plot. De put is 12 meter diep. 

(er is water gevonden na 8 meter diepte.) 

Vandaag weer bemoedigend om te zien wat mensen doen met wat ze geleerd hebben. 

De tweede landbouw groep heeft in groepjes kompost gemaakt, ze zijn er zelf ook erg enthousiast over. Ook was het mooi om te zien dat de leadfarmer van deze groep die een moslim is, zelf een eco toilet gemaakt heeft zodat hij de mest uit het toilet weer kan gebruiken voor de kompost of zijn veld. Er is hier namelijk een tekort aan mest. Nu is er een moslim die het voortouw neemt om daar verandering in te brengen. (foto volgt nog) 

Today it was encouraging to see what  people are doing with what has been taught. 

The second farmers group had made compost in smaller groups. They were enthusiastic themselves too. Also encouraging was that the lead farmer from the group, who is a Muslim, made and Eco toilet so that he can use the manure out of this toilet. There is a shortage of manure in the area. But now there is a Muslim who takes the lead in changing this. ( picture is coming)

This is a picture of our gardenboy.

His wife likes to spend money and he has difficulties to save money and spend it wisely. We have talked with him about the African money map from Crown.

He made a box to save money, he will save it and in the future will open the box and use the money for; starting a business or some other improvements for his family.

On the box he wrote: Everything we do, is for God. And then the names of him, his wife and his child.

It is great to see how he is practicing the topic of saving, besides this he is a great help for us. Last week we had a conference again and he is helping with cooking and we can trust him in everything in and around the house. Praise God for people like him.

Zijn vrouw houd er van om geld uit te geven en hij heeft ook moeite om geld te sparen en wijs te besteden. We hebben met hem gepraat over  de African Money Map van Crown.

Hij heeft een box gemaakt om geld in te sparen, in de toekomst zal hij op een dag de box open maken en het geld gebruiken om een onderneming te starten of investeren om zijn gezin verder te helpen.

Op de box heeft hij geschreven: alles wat we doen doen is voor God. Ook staat er zijn naam, en van zijn vrouw en van zijn kind.

Het is mooi om te zien hoe hij het onderwerp sparen in praktijk brengt. Vorige week hadden we een conferentie en hij helpt dan met eten koken. We kunnen hem vertrouwen in alles in en om het huis.

Prijs God voor mensen zoals hij. 

We started to train a group of people around the people that we have trained for the past two years. 

The people that we have trained were afraid that their neighbors would not come because we don't hand out something, but they came and were very interested to join! We are encouraged by what God is doing.

We zijn gestart om een groep mensen te trainen die de directe buren zijn van de mensen die we al voor een periode van twee jaar hebben getraind. De mensen die we al getraind hadden waren bang dat er weinig mensen zouden komen omdat we niks uitdelen, maar er kwamen wel mensen en ze waren erg geïnteresseerd om mee te doen. Wij zijn bemoedigd door wat God aan het doen is. 

Here two fields: The front field is done on ridges with the use of lots of fertilizer. In the back you see our field where we practice Foundations for Farming and have used chicken manure. The first field is at least 3 times larger but the harvest was only 13 kg of maize. From the our field we harvested 30 kg of maize. God has a plan for the poor!

Hier twee velden, vooraan is veel kunstmest gebruikt op een veld die traditioneel is voorbereid ( met ruggen). Daarachter een veld waar kippenmest is toegepast en via de methode van Foundations for Farming is voorbereid. 

Het resultaat: van het eerste veld dat minstens 3 x groter is, is de oogst 13 kg mais en van het tweede veld is 30 kg mais geoogst. God heeft een plan voor de armen!
